   I knew Rosie, who was the ‘original’ raving Granny, from Finchley, 15 years or so now…She was about 70 then and was on the Wogan show on BBC and went to a club called Megatripolis held at Heaven. She was out raving regularly, and she used to like smoking a little ‘hash’, (which her daughter disapproved of being from a Jewish line)…
   She put out a couple of records on the ‘Tomato’ records label, based at Lilley Yard, with Pascal on the Bongos (RIP) and probably engineered by Ray Wittard (of ‘Two shiny Heads’ moniker on Guerilla Records with Phil Asher) Marketing wasn’t as cynical in those days, but it was present and the ‘hype’ surrounding her just capitalised on a little of what was already there..

   Back to the present… I also ask the question as to the veracity? of this phenomenal granny. Certainly she has a capable team, around her (as do most successful DJ’s and musicians) But where the difference lies is that the capable DJ’s lucky enough to have a team, have built their own ‘world’ first, and the team is just an extension of this, allowing them to keep up with the fast moving scene…I sense that with the Granny this situation is reversed… a bit like the political situation we have these days of ‘focus group’ politicians – where they become the front men/women or puppets for other peoples ideas…With regards to DJing with digital files it’s relatively simple to beat mix these days which in the past was probably the greatest hurdle for entering the scene as a credible talent…In short – it’s just a fad..Real DJ’s are passionate collectors and audiophiles, but there’s always room for entertainers on the scene, no matter how short lived their rising stars might be…

      I remember her. I also remember Pascal, was a big fan back then. and yes, I agree in this case it has happened backwards. very curious to see where she goes with this. thanks for your input.

   mmm hard to say….I think this will give some hope to us girls worried about getting old in the world of image and events.

   But if this is a clever marketing thing this is just another way of making fun of us female djs. As ifshe is becoming famous only because she is “hilarious” in the same way as some showgirl become famous djs only because they are half naked…

   Then I hope she is a real talent!
